It is a limited company by guarantee, which means that none of its directors (who are council members) are shareholders. The HFI operates as a “not for profit” organisation. All of the directors are active within the industry in a variety of roles from retail to supply and donate their time completely free of charge, on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration whatsoever. This benefits the institute and our industry greatly as all income generated is utilised to further the goals of training, education and excellence.
The Institute has recently been re-launched as a result of the amalgamation of “The Institute of Health Food Retailing” and “The Health Food Training School”. The new entity “The Health Food Institute” has twin goals. To set industry standards and then recognise and reward individuals who through their personal efforts, contribute to the success of the Natural Product Market as a whole. Secondly, to continue and evolve the work of the training school through the development of recognisable, certified and respected training courses on nutritional and retailing skills.
Why does the Institute require support?
Although the council members freely give their time and in almost all cases, even fund their own expenditure, the Institute still has to constantly develop its training courses and support its administrative and legal needs. Income is currently earned only from its training courses, subscriptions and sponsorships and although the council does its utmost to keep all course and event costs down, it needs forward thinking companies to help finance the Institute’s goals. Such financial supporters are helping to improve the professionalism of the market as a whole yet also receive specific rewards as outlined below.
Opportunities to support the HFI
Suppliers or retailers will be able to become a Supporter, Benefactor or Patron of the HFI and in doing so, gain the right to purchase block values of “Training Vouchers” which can then be awarded to their retail customers or used for their own staff in a number of flexible ways.
Contributors are now in the position where they can directly affect the professional development of their staff or customers, be recognised for their support of the Institute and add another retailer service to their portfolio. Contributors will also qualify for tickets to the Annual Institute Lecture and Luncheon.
Retailers can now access free or heavily subsidised training. If you are a supplier, you benefit from increased product sales generated from the enhanced capabilities of retail customers and from retailers offering reciprocal support in preferred buying.
Recognition and Publicity for Patrons
A Patron will be able to include “Patron of the Health Food Institute” on official letterheads and within all relevant communications and marketing material. The Institute will include a list of all Patrons on all of its official correspondence, publicity material as well as displays at exhibitions, on our website and the Annual Institute Lecture and Luncheon.
A Patron will have exclusive access to Health Food Institute Scholarships where retail staff can be offered a scholarship to cover the full cost of a Certificate or Diploma course provided by Health Food Institute.
At all stages the scholarship presented to the individual will be referred to as the “Health Food Institute – “Company Name” Scholarship Award”. The Health Food Institute will feature all scholarships in its monthly newsletters to Members and Fellows, at the Annual Lecture and Presentations Luncheon, at industry trade exhibitions and in all press releases.
Recognition and Publicity for Benefactors and Supporters
Benefactors and Supporters will be able to include “Benefactor / Supporter of the Health Food Institute” within all relevant communications and marketing material.
